Founded only in May of 2013 Timber and Wood have recently exploded onto the festival circuit of Australia. With two East Coast Australian Tours under their belts, one self titled EP released, its become clear the Far Northern trio are a relentless hard working band on the rise. 2014 saw them complete almost 200 live shows and 7 festivals in and around Australia heading as far South as Wandiligong in N.E Victoria and as Far North as Cooktown so there’s doubt there has been a lot of km’s covered in the past 12 months.
With their name and reputation spreading around the country, recording a film clip for BalconyTV and taking out Best Live Local Entertainer as well as a host of other highlights it seems the good times are just beginning for Timber and Wood.
With a fresh unique sound and catchy original tunes Timber and Wood incorporate acoustic guitars, Peruvian cajon, a variety of percussion, stomp box, didgeridoo and flawless vocal harmonies to construct an exciting and entertaining live show that appeals to all ages. Recently the band have decided to focus all their spare time into writing more of their own material for the upcoming release of their second studio album and an international tour.
Founding members Marty Brown and Shannon Hunter both from Victoria found their roots in music as early teens taking the usual early musician road, learning on beat up half strung hand-me-down guitars. As fate had it the two lads, having never met each other, left chilly Victoria and moved to Port Douglas, the small tropical tourist town of Far North Queensland at almost the exact same time in 2005. After meeting at open mics and jam sessions in the local park the two decided to take it up a notch and form a band. After a few duo shows it was clear the formula they were looking for was incomplete. Glenna Lynes the third member was a crucial addition to the final Timber and Wood ‘sound’. Growing up in the United States Glenna found herself immersed in classic rock, blues and soul music with idols like Janis Joplin, Susan Tedeschi and Aretha Franklin the styles and sounds of these icons shine through in her powerful vocal performances and harmonies. Taking collective influences from bands like Mumford and Sons, John Butler Trio, Xavier Rudd and a host of other exceptional artists their easy listening sound is a hit for all kinds of audiences. Keep an eye out around the Australian Festival trail, tour venues and music stores for these guys, they can’t be missed!
